Fixing the "Blank TweetDeck" problem

Several people have reported an issue whereby TweetDeck will open entirely empty, with no data, and the buttons will not work. We have investigated the problem, and it appears the cause is down to a corruption of some Adobe AIR files.

In order to fix the problem, please follow these instructions, depending on your operating system.

Windows XP

  1. Close TweetDeck
  2. Open your C: drive in Windows Explorer or My Computer.
  3. Open the folder Documents and Settings
  4. Under this folder, there should be a folder with the the same name as username that you log into XP with. Open this folder.
  5. You should then have a folder called Application Data. Open it.
  6. You should then have a folder called Adobe. Open it.
  7. You should then have a folder called AIR. Open it.
  8. You should then have a folder called ELS. Open it.
  9. You should then have a folder called TweetDeckFast.xxx (where xxx is a string of numbers and letters). Delete this folder.
  10. Restart TweetDeck

Windows Vista

  1. Close TweetDeck
  2. Open your C: drive.
  3. Open the folder Users
  4. Under this folder, there should be a folder with the the same name as username that you log into Vista with. Open this folder.
  5. You should then have a folder called AppData. Open it.
  6. You should then have a folder called Local. Open it. If you do NOT have an Adobe folder here, go back up to the AppData folder and open theRoaming folder within it instead.
  7. You should then have a folder called Adobe. Open it.
  8. You should then have a folder called AIR. Open it.
  9. You should then have a folder called ELS. Open it.
  10. You should then have a folder called TweetDeckFast.xxx (where xxx is a string of numbers and letters). Delete this folder.
  11. Restart TweetDeck

Mac OS

  1. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/
  2. You should then have a folder called TweetDeckFast.xxx (where xxx is a string of numbers and letters). Delete this folder.
  3. Restart TweetDeck

Linux

  1. Navigate to ~/.appdata/Adobe/AIR/ELS/
  2. You should then have a folder called TweetDeckFast.xxx (where xxx is a string of numbers and letters). Delete this folder.
  3. Restart TweetDeck

You should then be able to use TweetDeck as normal. We will continue to follow up on this issue and will be adding functionality in the next release to check for this situation and solve it when TweetDeck starts up.

In the meantime, if you have any more questions about this problem, or others, feel free to email hello@tweetdeck.com

Thanks!

Richard

I tried this fix but with no luck, I posted my issue at the uservoice page for TweetDeck and will copy/paste here too so you can look into this issue: http://tweetdeck.uservoice.com/pages/1192-general/suggestions/185916-bug-tweetdeck-window-opens-empty-

My Windows Laptop is having the same problem. I have tried posting at GetSatisfaction but it seems it may be of more help here since it's more active here.

I have several times tried uninstalling Adobe AIR, TweetDeck (latest) and any other air apps for the hell of it. I have gone through making sure all application has been deleted and even as far as making sure entries in the Registry have been cleaned out before even attempting to install AIR and TweetDeck again.

My Windows Laptop is running Windows XP Media Center SP3, latest updates and such have all been applied too.

The strangest thing though is that the MAIN/First Windows Login User (mine) has absolutely no problems with logging in (does not show a blank setup screen).

But if you use another login (which has administrative rights as well) they can not use TweetDeck and they see a blank screen instead. See image: http://www.screencast.com/users/jordanriane/folders/Jing/media/a3c94c74-5ec6-4dbd-935d-34e47ed08571

And here is video (25 secs) showing you that absolutely nothing works in the navigation bar, settings, nothing: http://www.screencast.com/users/jordanriane/folders/Jing/media/ebeae246-b8ce-4383-ab64-a5b5e5cac132

I had already done what has been listed at these pages but they offer no fix, still, even if others have fixed it.

http://peter.boctor.net/2009/05/21/fixing-tweetdeck-and-adobe-air-apps-in-os-x/ (more so read over the XP part)

Maybe this is a problem with Windows XP Media Center Edition but I can not see it being so otherwise it is a TweetDeck problem.

This worked at first, but now it's started again. And everytime I open Tweetdeck, it just recreates a new TweetDeckFast.xxx file again.

@UtahDiabetes - if it's a Windows box, you definitely have an "Application Data" folder (if you've ever logged on to the machine). It can be difficult to find.

The easiest way is to click on Start > Run > in the box that says Open:, type in %appdata% and click OK.

This takes you right to Step #6 above.

This worked once I typed in %appdata% into the "Start Search" bar. Thanks very much for the help!

It didn't work for me. Neither the file nor the folder exist on my Intel iMac running OSX10.5.8, even after reintall. I even tried creating the folders myself to see if it would place the file in them .. no luck

Yep, still not working for me. I'm really bummed about this. I'm on Vista, and the instructions worked at first, but then didn't any more. Any Tweetdeck alternatives suggested?

I'm on Ubuntu Linux 9.04
Followed the instructions and deleted the file.

When I loaded Tweetdeck, the screen was still blank. Settings/logout/single coloumn buttons didn't do anything. At least when I clicked buttons on the left, it showed me a box asking me to select an account. Only, there are no options in the dropdown.

Advice?

Just wanted to say that for those of you that this solution hasn't worked for (namely the xp windows one), make sure that your TweetDeck isn't preloaded on your bottom toolbar. You'll have to force it to exit (close the application) and then restart TweetDeck. I wanted to add that 2 cents, because i didnt notice it even after uninstalling / reinstalling it several times.
